Doulos - Feed the Poor Programme

Since 2007, the Church of the Sacred Heart has established a 'Feed the Poor' programme called "Doulos" on every Sunday. The poor are given a free meal and may have as many helpings as they wish, as long as they finish their food. Every Sunday, between 250-280 trays of food are served to the poor. Since then, the Church has constructed a building and named it Doulos with the inscription "Glory to God, Service to Mankind.

Beginning 2 May 2011, the Catholic Welfare Services (CWS) joined the Sacred Heart Church to provide free meals to the poor on a daily basis from 11.00am to 1.00pm. Between 170-280 trays of food are served to the poor daily, and the numbers are increasing.

A social worker from CWS is stationed at the Church once a week so that people who need further assistance may consult the social worker on-site. This programme is part of CWS's outreach to the poor. Both Sacred Heart Church and CWS feel that in pooling their resources, more of the poor may have at least one decent meal (or later, perhaps two meals) per day, and more needy people wil come to know that help is available.
