Our Milestones - 1970-1979
1971
- Self-help projects, an experimental project to assist needy applicants in self-help projects proposed by themselves.
- Jurong Town/JCW Workers' Centre, started by the Singapore Young Christian Workers' Movement, served as a centre for the promotion of the integral development of young workers in Jurong Town.
1972
- Registered as a Member with Caritas Internationalis, a Confederation of Catholic Charities.
1973
- Feed-the-Family Project, started with donated funds for needy investigated by the donors' agents.
1975
- Aid to Indochinese Refugees began with a Church collection initiated by the Archbishop Most Rev. Olcomendy for the Archbishop in Saigon, and continued to feed the Vietnamese refugees housed in St. John's Island.
1977
- SANA Catholic Aftercare Counselling Service, formed and affiliated to SANA (Singapore Anti Narcotics Association). The service was extended to ex-drug users and their families in 1984.
1978
- Student Loan Fund, established for those in need of aid to attend institutions of higher learning.
- St. Joseph's Home, administered by the Canossian Sisters , was set up in response to the needs of an aging society. In 1985, a Hospice service was added to the Home to care for patients with advanced illness.
- The Geylang Catholic Centre, established to provide a service to the community.
1979
- St. Vincent Home, a community home for ambulant elderly set up as a joint project between the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and CWS.
